Morjes! I’m Aleksi Niemi, a Green candidate for the Tampere municipal elections and almost graduated student of Administrative Sciences. I have been involved in student organisations in Tampere for a long time and that is how I found my enthusiasm to influence social issues. I am currently working in the field of democracy education for young people.

In the morning trains to Helsinki I dream of a job in Tampere. I love going to gigs, restaurants and testing out the outdoor gyms in Tampere.

My Tampere is a place where you want to move to and live out the rest of your live

Year after year, Tampere is the most attractive city in Finland, and for good reason. For example, it offers good and varied study opportunities and a wide range of cultural activities; there is plenty to see and do.

For me, it is important that people in Tampere can enjoy their leisure time and meet other people, regardless of their circumstances and wealth. Supporting culture, sport and leisure activities is crucial for the well-being and sense of community of Tampere residents and for the city’s attractiveness and attractiveness.

The employment situation is difficult throughout the country, and this is also the case in Tampere. Employment services must play their part. At the same time, we need to ensure that there are enough jobs in Tampere for those who want them, whether they are recent graduates or from elsewhere.

To make everyday life run smoothly, we need affordable housing and smooth public transport – especially now that the government is cutting subsidies for housing and construction and increasing taxes on public transport. The cost of living must remain affordable, and it is housing costs and public transport fares that make a big difference to how well people get on here.

In my opinion, a good everyday life is ultimately made up of quite small things, and I stand up for them in Tampere. That’s why I’m running for the council

Who has the right to vote?

International students and immigrants may not always be aware that they too have the right to influence their municipality and wellbeing services county by voting in municipal and county elections. The municipality and the welfare services county also decide on matters and services related to the daily lives of people who have arrived in Finland from abroad.

So who can vote?

You can vote if you are a resident of a municipality and are aged 18 or over on the day of the election. EU citizens are entitled to vote if they have a municipality of residence in Finland 51 days before the election day. Citizens of other countries are entitled to vote if, in addition to the above, they have lived in Finland continuously for two years before the election day.

The right to vote is determined in the same way for county elections and municipal elections. Make your vote count!
